National Service Scheme

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunity to the student youth of 11th & 12th Class of schools at +2 Board level and student youth of Technical Institution, Graduate & Post Graduate at colleges and University level of India to take part in various government led community service activities & programmes.

About NSS

The National Service Scheme (NSS) was launched in 1969 with the primary objective of developing the personality and character of the student youth through voluntary community service. The motto of NSS is "NOT ME BUT YOU".

The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are:

  • To understand the community in which they work
  • To understand themselves in relation to their community
  • To identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving
  • To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
  • To utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems
  • To develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities
  • To gain skills in mobilizing community participation
  • To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes
  • To develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters

NSS Unit at KDS College

The NSS Unit at KDS College was established in 2010 with the aim of inculcating the spirit of voluntary work among students and teachers through sustained community interaction. It brings our academic institutions closer to the society.

The NSS Unit at KDS College has been actively involved in various community service activities such as:

Students interested in joining the NSS Unit at KDS College can contact the NSS Program Officer or the Student Affairs Office. The selection is based on the student's interest in community service and willingness to participate in NSS activities.
